The beautiful Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park! I just knew I had to capture the glorious colors of West Texas and Mexico in watercolors.

Using only blue, yellow, white, and black I painted this flower with acrylic paints to practice color mixing and color theory.

This piece was born from my love of the gorgeous backgrounds used in all the cartoons I grew up with. A lot of backgrounds in movies are traditionally watercolor. With a standout piece of architecture like this, it demanded a little more definition so I did some inking over the final watercolor painting to create the final piece.
